So, what's with the two sets of explosive noises that just woke me up and set off every car alarm and yappy dog in Shadyside? And why are there multiple news choppers buzzing about overhead?

Does anybody know what's up with all the big white DPW road-block sawhorses all over the sidewalks in Shadyside? I was assuming they were for the Pittsburgh Marathon that's this weekend (drivers, beware!), but after looking at the map (PDF here) I've noticed that a lot of the areas that have sawhorses (ie further down S. Does anybody know what's up with the construction they just started on Fifth Avenue in Shadyside between Shady Avenue and... I don't know how far down it goes, but past College? Specifically, does anyone know when it's going to end?
